A Review of Dominical Waverider Surf School in Dominical, Costa Rica
Dominical Waverider is a husband and wife team out of Dominical, Costa Rica. Jeanine and Andy have lived in the area for 8+ years, are friends with everyone in the little town, and are very respected surf instructors. Literally, every time we went out surfing, to grab a bite, etc., some local would come up and tell me what a good decision I'd made to learn from Jeanine and Andy. Jeanine handles all of the logistics of booking out your trip, finding you suitable hotels with availability, getting you to and from the airport, reserving you taxis when needed, and any other trip excursions you decide to do. She is awesome, and went above and beyond what I'd expect my surfing liaison to do. She did more than she had to do to make sure I was taken care of and that my trip was planned well. Andy is super knowledgeable about the water, has surfed all of his life, was a Pacific Ocean life guard for a good chunk of his adult life in San Diego and in Costa Rica. He's an expert surfer and instructor. No ego, keeps a very watchful eye on you and the ocean, and loves to see his students "getting it." Dominical Waverider is a mobile business, as in, there's no brick-and-mortar building on the beach. This is a huge advantage because Andy and Jeanine pick you up at your hotel each day and then pick the best beach in the area for surfing on a particular day. There are several beaches in the area with different waves. Not being tied to one location is a huge advantage, and you need instructors who are knowledgeable about where to go when the ocean is acting a particular way. Excellent, excellent, experience!
